I’m not exactly sure where I saw these first, but we just started our second semester at Lincoln Lutheran, and the assignment for all of my independent study video editing students was to watch all 12 of these.

Final Project

It’s Friday night, Lauren is tired, so I get to finally post something. Weeks and weeks ago, three weeks before the end of the school year in fact, I gave my Website Design Class their final assignment. They were going to design the website for the Nebraska School Nutrition Association.

Our School Nutrition person was the vice-president of the Nebraska School Nutrition Association, and they had wanted a website for years and years. We broke the class up into a few different working groups and went to work. I think it turned out pretty nice:

As an added bonus, my principal came to observe the class when the students were meeting with their client to iron out some of the details of the website. It’s always good to have your principal watch when you’re not the focus of attention.

As an added added bonus, I have a lot of good pictures of food to look at when I’m hungry…

First Day of Summer

Yesterday was the last day of school for me (school never ends for Lauren). We are having surprisingly few teacher meetings this year and I’m nearly done with grading, so I should be free pretty soon.

Next week I’ll start spending my time making up important sounding things to tell Lauren that I’ve been doing while she’s been at work. it takes longer than you might think.

But that’s not what I wanted to say today. I wanted to show you this not altogether disappointing video that some of my students made in Video Editing Class. It’s a ~~rip-off of~~ homage to a more famous video, but one that I hadn’t seen before…

First Sting of Spring

So, there was this wasp in my classroom two days ago. I think it snuck in through the air conditioner (that’s how I’d sneak in). I didn’t think much about it. I figured it would fly around awhile then leave.

Well yesterday it (or a very similar looking wasp) was still there. I saw it land on my monitor and I said, “Hello, wasp.” A few minutes later I leaned back in my chair, but the wasp was thinking the same thing. Well, before I could sting it, it stang me.

There were students in the room, so I didn’t say the first 12 things that popped into my mind. Instead, I said, “Did you guys see that wasp that was flying around in here?” After a few students had affirmed the existence of the wasp I followed up with, “Well it just stung me, and it really hurts. I mean ouch, wow. So if I pass out, someone write a pass for someone to go to the office to tell someone.”

Some of you might remember that I was working on a new website for Lincoln Lutheran for, um, about the last three years. Variation on a Theme

Keeping with our -oh so recent- music theme, I went to Lincoln Lutheran’s Fall Sampler concert earlier this week. This is a fun concert to go to, because all of the bands and choirs just do a couple of numbers, so you hear everyone in about an hour. An hour is about my attention span these day.

Middle School choirs sounded good. This is a relief, because we have a new middle school choir director this year, and she is a Spanish teacher (I know, that’s what I thought too). But not to worry, she’s as good as a normal teacher when it comes to directing a middle school choir (recorded on my phone, so the quality isn’t very good):

Next up was the Middle School band. Mr. Wilhelm is the best middle school band director that I have ever heard. I base my opinion on the fact that I have never winced or cringed while his middle school bands were playing:

Then the high school band played, but I don’t really appreciate high school band, so I mostly tuned them out. Sorry band. I just don’t get you.
